Garden club in April 2013

Now it's April, spring is here, everything is in full bloom! ... Well, this doesn't seem to be quite right for where we live. The temperature is around 10 to 15 degrees celsius in the day time and can be below 5 degrees at night.

Still, we've been having some sunny days this month, swallows are back and you find seedlings popping out in vegetable patches from last year and of course, weeds as well!
It's a busy time of the year for gardeners including us.

April is the month for Fergus & Lesley.
We started gathering in their garden in Glendree at after 10 o'clock on Sunday morning. We hopped in the kitchen to leave food that we bought for lunch and then, our work began.

A couple of us were sowing carrot and beetroot seeds down. The soil is lovely and light.

The weather wasn't promised good but it turned out to be a nice day. We had a good sunshine with some odd showers which didn't bother us.

We made a brand new bed out of the lawn patch. Fergus reckoned there used to be a garden here before.

Does it look like we're working hard? Yes, we are but we are enjoying a chat at the same time!

This new bed is for growing potatoes. We stuck the potatoes in a drill marked by the twine.

Can you see the potatoes?

Within less than 3 hours, a big new bed is ready and spuds sown.
The garden club makes it possible to do a big job like this in a relatively short time.

Lesley suggested to have a walk around their lake and woodland. That was beautiful as was the lunch afterwards.

This is one of the nicest time of the day.
We always enjoy having lunch together. Everything tastes so delicious after working outside.
We have tea and some goodies, and more chat to enjoy.

See you next month.
